Chung was raised by a dissolute family. His sister who left home, now lives with a hoodlum who is a member of a group that practices self-torture in religious ceremonies. Chung joins the group at the request of his deeply religious mother, who wishes to bring happiness to a tragic family. However, Chung enters a world of violence. The film is shot and edited in an extremely documentary-like fashion. Furthermore, the cast is an amateur cast with no experience. Ah Chung is the debut film for Chang Tso-Chi, who worked as an assistant director of Hou Hsiao-Hsien in the film, “A City of Sadness”.
